Retired Astronaut Jose HernandezStudents and teachers of REACH High School participated in a unique learning experience at Tarrant County College’s South Campus on Thursday March 29, 2019. SER National hosted a STEM-focused Community Day in which students could explore careers related to STEM, which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
Inspirational keynote speakers included, Jose M. Hernandez, a former NASA astronaut, who spent much of his childhood as a migrant worker. Alejandra B. said that Mr. Hernandez’s story inspired her, stating “He came from nothing and became something, which means I could probably do the same thing. James M. said that he really enjoyed the keynote speaker who was honest, yet entertaining. It was amazing to James because Mr. Hernandez “was just a kid with a dream, just like me.”
Students had the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities and workshops in the areas of Robotics and Healthcare and visited with various corporate sponsors. Thank you, Mrs. Flowers, for organizing this exciting field trip
