REACH News for September

The school year has started off with a bang and we have a busy September underway!  If you have a chance, please stop by the administration building to view our bulletin board display with this year's theme, "Success is Within REACH".

On Friday, September 11th, in observance of the 14th anniversary of the senseless tragedy that stole the lives of 2,977 people and touched millions, there will be a 15 minute remembrance at the beginning of the school day.  Family, friends, and community members are welcome to attend.

September 11th also kicks off the REACHing Out Program which is a partnership between Castleberry Elementary and REACH High.  Twice a month, our students visit CE to assist teachers in the art, music, gym, and theater arts rooms with kindergarten students.

The morning of September 15th will be spent in the Alternative Learning Center's new gymnasium for a Student Summit.  At this time, students and staff will work together in various fun activities and team building games to foster the leadership aspect in REACH students.  After lunch, the day will end at Cowtown Bowling Center.

On Constitution Day, September 17th, Sean Rivers (social studies instructor) will share a brief summary of the significance of the day.  This will take place at 9:50 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. and is open to the public.

The first guest speaker of the year will be on Friday, September 18th.  On the first day of school, students participated in a survey which indicated that many are interested in having the Army as a guest on campus.  This will happen from 1:50 p.m.-- 2:45 p.m. and as always, family, friends, and community members are very welcome to attend.

Saturday School debuts for this school year on September 19th from 8:00 a.m. - noon.  Although this is optional for students, attendance is highly recommended in order to keep up with the rigor of the campus course work and to receive additional assistance.

The first of  two blood drives for the school year takes place on Tuesday, September 22nd from 8:30 a.m. until 3:15 p.m. in the Commons Area at REACH.  Please, please make plans to stop by and save three lives with your generous donation.  Students who participate, or if someone donates in a student's name, will receive one hour community service credit per donation.  Any senior who donates at both blood drives will receive a Red Honor Cord to wear at graduation.

An additional partnership with Castleberry Elementary, led by Sal Limas, kicks off on Monday, September 21st.  The P.R.I.D.E. program will pair up 15 REACH students with 15 CE students to meet together twice a month for mentoring and assistance.

The final event for the month is Dress For Success #1 on Friday, September 25th.
Students are encouraged to dress professionally for the day and a group picture will be taken.  REACH has a clothes closet that is open for the students at any time with many professional dress clothes that students may have for this or any event.  Donations are accepted on an ongoing basis.

We hope to see you at one of our upcoming events!!
